If we follow the rule of thumb of 10% mast bury for unstayed masts, the mast bury for Hatseflats with LAD~450 should be 40cm.
I could not find a logical explanation why it should be 10%.
The Topper (over 50000 sold) has 26cm mast bury with LAD=500 and 51mm diameter.
TooPhat has 30cm with the same Topper rig.
Laser has LAD~500, 7.6m2, and a mast bury of about 30cm
The Goat Island Skiff (over 1000 plans sold) has LAD=440 and 30cm mast bury for a box mast of app. 70x70mm.
The Skerry also has very little mast bury, about 27cm for LAD=339
I prefer to integrate the mast partner with the bow tank, which is 34cm above the cockpit sole.
It is a requirement that the mast can be unstepped on the water.
With 14kgs it is impractical to put the mast into a hole in the deck like on the Goat Island Skiff.
Instead I am looking at Iain Oughtreds solution of hardwood chocks extending from the bow tank.
(CPBM 6-133).
This solution allows the mast to be walked into position and then locked into place.
