Bow Rocker
Feeling that the bow of H3 was way too low,
I measured the bow rocker of a couple of flat-bottomed pram hulls.
The bow rocker of my H3 design is only 15 degrees
compared to about 20-25 degrees for conventional designs.
I think H3 may be very wet and slow to windward.
Since Norwegian prams and vlet hulls are reputed for their seaworthiness
I decided to rework the Hatseflats design and raise the bow rocker from 22 degrees to 24-25 degrees.
The table below indicates the average bow rocker of existing designs:
Designer | Design | Length | Bow rocker |
Vivier | 3.7m | Laita | 25 |
Vivier | 5.49m | Seil | 25 |
Bolger | app 3m | Auray Punt | 24 |
Bolger | 3.8m | Japanese Beach Cruiser | 14 |
Chapelle | 2.7m | Lapstrake Pram | 25 |
Harris | app 3.8m | Passagemaker Dinghy | 22 |
Traditional | Dutch Schouw | 5.5m | 25 |
Christian Nielsen | Lokken Pram | 5.5m | 25 |
