Mast Bury

The term 'mast bury' refers to the distance from mast partner to step. According to a post on the WoodenBoat forum (http://forum.woodenboat.com/showthread.php?93894-How-Much-Bury-to-a-Mast), the mast bury must be 10% of the length of the (unstayed) mast above the step.

Not everyone adheres to this practice. For example the Laser, Topper and also the Goat Island Skiff have much smaller dimensions. With TooPhat, I went for 24cm on a 460cm mast.

Hatseflats carries a lot more sail (9m2) and as a cruising dinghy should be more robust. The mast of Hatseflats will be about 400 cm above the mast partner, this means we need 40cm mast bury. To keep the design simple, I want to put the mast partner at the top of the bow tank, which is about 15cm below sheer height. The current height is 32cm so we need to redesign the boat to get to 40cm.
