Loose Ends

Called Marinus to say that I want to tie up the loose ends in the design before finalizing the hull design and committing to build.

Loose ends with strings attached:

  • cockpit length - related to bulkhead locations (stern tank and daggerboard box)
  • final sheerline design - related to height of bow and stern tank, indirectly related to mast bury (not a problem)
  • mainsheet pickup point - related to bulkhead locations and floorboard design.
  • floorboard design, how low can you go? - may affect seating height.
  • different heights for seating and sleeping - related to height of daggerboard box.
  • daggerboard case construction - partially determines length of daggerboard box.

Just loose ends:

  • towing ring - preference to horizontal position.
  • hatches in stern tank and bow tank
  • access to daggerboard box: hatch(es) on top? bad for strength.
  • should the daggerboard box provide flotation? (probably not)
  • should the forward compartment drain into the daggerboard box? (no)
  • towing ring should be attached above CWL through rubbing strake and internal backing plate.
  • bottom rubbing strakes - prefer build-up of plywood for strength
